ROCK FALLS - George E. Iben, 83, of Rock Falls, died Saturday, March 24, 2012, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.
George Earl Iben was born on Jan. 16, 1929, in Sterling, the son of Ado and Alice (Ohms) Iben. He married Carol L. Camps on Sept. 5, 1954, in Sterling. George was an electrician, having worked with IBEW Local 364 for 60 years before retiring. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Rock Falls. He enjoyed Civil War history and was a gun collector. he also enjoyed collecting clocks and watching the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears.
Surviving are his wife, Carol; four children: Mark Iben of Houston, Christine Higley (Dan Grennan) of Rock Falls, Kate (Don) Gross of Athens, Tenn., and Diane (Comer) Wadzeck of Phoenix; one brother, Arnold "Butch" (Elsie) Iben of Sterling; one sister, Elvera Ilgenfritz of Midland, Mich.; nine grandchildren, Alex Iben, Brad (Katherine) Higley, Andy Higley, Ben (Jaden) Higley, Emily Higley, Kaylan Gross, Mick Gross, Jake Wadzeck and Johathan Wadzeck.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11 a.m., Wednesday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Rock Falls, with the Rev. Daniel Behmlander officiating. Burial will be at Hopkins Cemetery in rural Sterling.
A memorial has been established to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Rock Falls.
