Clara Pauline Montania, age 90, a longtime resident of Portage, IN passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2010. She was born on February 25, 1919 in Lincoln, Nebraska the daughter of Godfrey and Eva Becker. She was married to Elmer C. Montania in September of 1944 in Gary, IN. Clara worked for over 20 years as a teller for the Chesterton State Bank. She was an active member with Augustana Lutheran Church and served on many committees and woman's societies. She was an avid bridge player and also sat on the VNA Board for Porter County. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all. Clara is survived by her loving son, Ron (Susan) Montania, Valparaiso, IN; grandchildren, Lisa (Chad) Gengnagle, Jackson Township, and Matthew Montania, Valparaiso, IN; great-grandson, Ryan Gengnagle and other loving family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Elmer C. Montania on February 2, 1986 and her son, Timothy A. Montania on November 9, 2009. A visitation for Clara Montania will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 22, 2010 at Rees Funeral Home – Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, IN. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2010 directly at Augustana Lutheran Church, 207 Kelly Street, Hobart, IN with Pastor Charles Strietelmeier, officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Portage. Memorials in Clara's memory may be made to the V.N.A. of Porter County.
