Newton Semmler, 55, of Ree Heights, S.D., died Wednesday Nov. 6, 1996, at St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre, S.D.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 8, 1996, at 2:00 p.m. at the Re Heights Community Church with Pastor Rocky Woolery officiating. Burial was at Morningside Cemetery in Ree Heights with military rites by Heasley Post #101, Ree Heights.
Newton Semmler wa born January 27, 1941 to Rudolph and Olga (Rosenau) Semmler at Parkston, S.D. He attended school in Ree Heights an served two years in the U.S. Army
On November 7, 1970, he married Janet Lee Goehring of Harrold. To this union three children were born.
He owned and operated Ree Heights Sewer Service and as a partner in Ree Heights Auction Service. He also farmed for many years.
He was an active member of the Ree Heights Community Church, a lifetime member of the American Legion and a Trustee of the Ree Heights Town Board and a volunteer fireman.
He is survived by his wife, Jan of Ree Heights; one son , Matthew and his wife Jennifer of Ree Heights; two daughters, April and Wendy of Ree Heights; his mother, Olga of Ree Heights; one sister, Darlene (Robert) Sandstedt of Boring, Ore.; and one sister-in-law, Katherine Semmler of Pierre.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rudolph, and his brother, Lester Semmler.
Pallearers were Delton Beck, Charles Schock, Jim Blair, Benny Snodgrass, Randy Hall and Terry Ragan.
