CEDAR RAPIDS RESIDENT DIED IN HOSPITAL

Joseph Kleve Passed Away at Columbus July 20; Funeral Held July 23

Joseph Kleve died at the St. Mary hospital in Columbus July 20 at the age of 78 years and 7 months. Funeral services were held Monday morning, July 23, at St. Anthony’s church in Cedar Rapids with Father Vermullen officiating at the requiem mass and at the burial rites at St. Anthony’s cemetery.

Joseph A. Kleve was born December 20, 1866, in Holland Town, Wis. He moved with his parents to Platte county, Nebraska, in 1876. He was married to Theresa Lachnit April 29 1890, and to this union thirteen children were born.

The family moved to Cedar Rapids in 1910.

He was preceded in death by two infant children and one son, Louis, who died in 1927 at the age of 26, and by his wife, who passed away September 22, 1934.

He leaves to mourn, one sister, Mrs. A. J. vanAckeren and nine sons and one daughter, William and Genevieve of Cedar Rapids; Frank of Holyoke, Colo.; Walter of Hillsboro, Ore.; Alfred of Grand Island; Joe of Hay Springs; Lawrence of Central City; Sylvester of Albion; Edwin of Waterloo, Iowa; and Marcellus of Vista, Calif. Surviving him also are 35 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One grandchild, Arnold Kleve, died in the service.

All were here to attend the funeral services except Walter, Edwin and Marcellus.

Attending from out of town were Joe Wemhoff, Mr. and Mrs. B. J. German, Bernard Brockhaus, Albert Rollman, Frank Fuchs, Frank Braun, Lambert Heesacker, Henry Lachnit, all of Humphrey; Frank Lachnit of Mitchell, S. D.; and Agnes vanAckeren and Marcella Kleve of Omaha.

Pallbearers were: Jim Caldwell, Tony Batenhorst, Tony Koziel, Bernard Braun, Frank Theewen and Walter Gordon.
