Robert Oliver Mickler, 67. As a member of a pioneer Florida family, Bob was a leader in his church, family and community. From his Palm Valley and St. Augustine roots, Bob's close ties with many members of the community and beyond enriched all with respect, humor and most importantly love. Bob passed away Friday August 10th, 2007. He died suddenly after a heroic fight following surgery on July 20th 2007 to repair an aortic aneurysm. He is survived by his beloved wife, Maureen Sheila Heaney Mickler, his sons Bryan Joseph Mickler, and Robert Philip Mickler (wife Julie Grubbs Mickler), daughter Kerri Megan Mickler (fiance' Vee Van Patten) and darling grandchildren, Gracie Elizabeth Mickler and Robert James Mickler. He is also survived by his brothers Lester H. Mickler (Geri), Martin J. Mickler (Lynn) and his Aunt, Georgia Ann Hinson. He is preceded in death by his father, Lester Joseph Mickler, and his mother Gladys Howard Mickler. A native and lifelong resident of Jacksonville, he is a proud graduate of St. Paul's Catholic School and Bishop Kenny High School where he was an all star co-captain of the varsity football team. He completed his undergraduate degree in Accounting from Fordham University and attained his J.D. from Villanova Law School where he received a full scholarship, many awards and was a member of the law review. Bob was a prominent Jacksonville attorney specializing in real estate. Working with many of the country's largest real estate concerns, he was instrumental in shaping the development of much of Florida's First Coast. He was a member of San Jose Catholic Church, a 15-year member of the Board of Directors of St. Vincent's Hospital, and most recently was a member of The Diocesan Board of Directors of Catholic Charities. He was a Paul Harris Fellow in The Rotary Club of Jacksonville and is a Knight, Grand Cross in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem. The viewing will be held at 6:30 PM Tuesday, August 14th at San Jose Catholic Church, 3619 Toledo Road, Jacksonville, FL 32217. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at San Jose Catholic Church, with internment in Oaklawn Cemetery. The Reverend Alberto Esposito will be officiating.
