Mrs. Johanna Michel, 83, a resident of Tacoma since 1901, when she came here with her husband, the late Rev. Henry F. Michel, German Methodist church minister, died Tuesday at a local hospital. She was prominent in church work during her early days here and since her husband's death had operated an apartment house at 1110 Fawcett avenue.
Mrs. Michel, in recent years, was active in the Temple Baptist church, of which she was a member and head of the matrons' class. She leaves a son, Henry, of South Dakota; a daughter, Mrs. William E. Hanson of Tacoma and a number of nephews and nieces, some of whom are still in Germany, and three grandchildren.
Piper will make funeral arrangements for Friday.
