Mr. Frederick Stratmann was born in Hanover, Germany, in the year of 1847, and passed away at his home in Chapman, Neb., on Sunday, April 21, 1918, after a lingering illness at the age of 71 years. In the year 1868, when 21 years of age, he came to America, and in 1871, located in Grand Island where, with his brother Henry, now deceased, he engaged in the implement and wagon business. In this business he continued for a period of fifteen years or more, when he sold out his interests and located on a farm in Merrick county which has ever since been the farm home of the family.
In 1873 Mr. Stratman was united in matrimony to Miss Elizabeth Seim of Merrick county, his faithful widow who survives him. To this union were born eight daughters and four sons, one son, Louis, having preceded his father in death. The children are: Mrs. Alma Garbers, Mrs. Anna Giese, Alfred Stratmann, Mrs. Henry Harry, Mrs. Olga Breininger, Miss Marie Stratmann, Mrs. Conrad Weller, Henry S. Stratmann, now in France, Mrs. Dora Hollister, Miss Amelia Stratman, and Fred Stratmann. He also leaves one brother, William Stratmann, of 909 West Charles street, this city, and one sister, to mourn his loss. Funeral services were held from the home in Chapman on Wednesday and were very largely attended by the relatives and many friends of the deceased.
