Leslie H. Dryer

New York Mills – Leslie H. Dryer, age 59, formerly of Herkimer passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 6, 2011, in his home.

He was born on September 9, 1951, son of the late Leslie D. and Dorothy Esther Hoffner Dryer. A lifelong area resident he graduated from Herkimer High School with the class of 1971. He served in the US Army from 1971 until 1973, then with the US Army Reserves until his honorable discharge in November 1977 obtaining the rank of Sp5 Sergeant.

He was a member of the Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department Excelsior Hook and Ladder Company No. 3, serving from 1969. Les was the Parade Captain for seven years where he received several parade trophies including the Parade Captain Award.

He worked for Munson William Proctor Arts Institute, Utica for over 20 years as a K-9 Patrolman until his retirement in 2010. He will always be remembered as a caring person.

He is survived by his sister and her family, Elaine and Frank Acker of Herkimer, a niece Lisa Karpowich of Frankfort, a nephew Timothy Acker of Herkimer, great nieces and nephew Kyler and Kaylee Karpowich, Colin and Logan Acker, and several cousins.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday at1:00 p.m. in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend Mark Andersen, Pastor of the Herkimer Reformed Church will officiate. Interment will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, later this spring. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 11:00 until 1:00 p.m.
