Leona Goetsch, 92, formerly of Wausau, passed away Friday, June 1, 2007, at Care Partners Assisted Living, Weston.
She was born July 31, 1914, in Wausau to the Late William and Alta (Trantow) Porath. On Sept. 18, 1937, Leona married Winfried (Win) Goetsch at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wausau. He preceded her in death Jan 12, 1998.
Leona and Wi lived in Milwaukee, where she volunteered at Bethesda, a local orphanage and a boy's group home, as well as working for JC Penney Co. After she and Win moved to Wausau, Leona continued her volunteering with the Ladies Aid at Trinity Lutheran Church and Bethesda Thrift Shop. Her hobbies included cooking, and vegetable and flower gardening with her special passion for raising African Violets.
Survivors include her daughter, Jane Borchardt of Schofield; three sisters-in-law, Florence Porath, Merrill, Dorothy Goetsch, New Port Richey, FL and Dolores Porath, Milwaukee and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Leona was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Eugene Borchardt; four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be at 11 am Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wausau. The Rev Gary Schultz will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, town of Maine. Visitation will be from 9 am until the time of services Monday at the church.
