Ferdinand was 26 and an apprentice miller when he married Friederike (daughter of a shepherd) in 1833, a miller by 1835 at their twin daughters' baptism, emigrated to the Milw. area in 1849, filed a declaration intent 1850, worked as a laborer in Milw. area until in 1858, bought 160 acres in Cooperstown, Wisconsin public land sale at age 50, retired in 1880 age 73 with his 6th child, Robert, farming the land, and dying at age 85.
