Heart Attack Proves Fatal To J.L. Moore

Funeral set for 3 O'clock Thursday Afternoon

While in Gonzales this morning attending to business a prominent citizen of t he Stieren section. James Lester Moore passed away at 10:30 o'clock. Mr. Moore was apparently in the best of health and was feeling well when he left his family to attend to business. He suffered a heart attack in front of the Gibson Cash Grocery and succumbed although a physician was summoned.
Surviving Mr. Moore are his wife and three children, Mrs. . R. Cook of San Marcos, Mrs. J. H. Halbrooke of Port Arthur and Morris Moore of Gonzales. He also leaves three sisters Mrs. Forest Reed of San Antonio, Mrs. Frank Long and Mrs. H. F. Jordon of Basdrop.
Funeral services have been set for 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the home and interment will be made at the Thompsonville Cemetery at 3:30. Rev. K. C. Minter, pastor of the First Methodist Church of this city will conduct the last rites. Mr. Moore was a long time member of the Methodist Church.

One of Gonzales county's outstanding men, James Lester Moore, prominent stockman and farmer, was laid to rest in the Thompsonville cemetery on Thursday afternoon, September 30, with a fitting last tribute. Many attended the services from all parts of the county and from a distance, attesting to the love and high esteem in which Mr. Moore was held in the hearts and minds of those who knew him.
Death came suddenly and without warning to this venerable and long time resident of the Stieren section, Mr. Moore succumbing to a heart attack while in Gonzales on business. His unexpected passing came as a great shock to his family and loved ones, for on leaving home that morning he was apparently in the best of health and had uttered no word of complaint.
Rev. Kenneth C. Minter, pastor of the First Methodist church of Gonzales and Rev. Mitchell of New Braunfels conducted the beautiful and impressive last rites. A high tribute was paid to the memory of the deceased in which his outstanding virtues of kindliness, sincerity, and uprightness were dwelt upon. In the hearts of many a memory of close fellowship and contacts with Mr. Moore will linger long, while his life and ideals for an inspiration for his bereaved loved ones.
Mr. Moore had for many years been a member of the Thompsonville Methodist church, always a worker for what he believed to be just and right. During the services two of the old hymns that found a responsive chord in his heart when rendered during church services he attended were given. These were: "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me."
Active pallbearers were: Herman Orts, Stieren; Jim Scheske, Gonzales; Ernest Gosh, Waelder; A. W. Cook, Seguin; Carol Gunn and Frank McMillan, Waelder.
James Lester Moore was born in Hillsprairie, Texas, on October 16, 1872. On December 9, 1908 he was married to Miss Beulah Gunn, who survives him. A few years after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Moore moved to Gonzales county where they have since resided until Mr, Moores death on Sept. 29, 1937, rearing a family of two daughters and one son, now surviving. The children are: Mrs. J. M. Holbrook, Port Arthur; Mrs. V. R. Cook, San Marcos; and Morris Moore, Gonzales.
Also surviving are three sisters: Mrs. F. A. Long, Bastrop; Mrs. Forest Reed, San Antonio; Mrs. Frank Jordan, Bastrop; one brother, Dan Moore, died in 1927. Two grandchildren, Morris and Rita Jean Cook, also survive.
