Raymond J. "Ray" Kerfeld, age 85 of Freeport, died Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 12 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. Rev. Roger Klassen, OSB will officiate with interment following in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church in Freeport. Goldenaires Senior Citizens will pray at 4 p.m. followed by St. Joseph's Society at 7 p.m. and parish prayers at 8 p.m.

Ray Kerfeld was born May 6, 1922 in Freeport, Minnesota to Henry and Anna (Koetter) Kerfeld. He was raised north of Freeport and attended school at the Millwood country school. On May 27, 1947 he married Donna Hoeschen at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. The couple farmed near Freeport until 1957 when they moved to Freeport. He worked various jobs through out his life including road construction, farming, the Albany Kraft plant, and carpentry. For the past two years he had resided at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose.

He was a life time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and St. Joseph's Society.

Ray enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, fishing, and was an avid sports fan, following the Twins and Vikings religiously.

Survivors include ten children, Marilyn (Art) Zenzen of Plymouth, Ken (Rhonie) Kerfeld of Albany, Mark (Deb) Kerfeld of Sauk Rapids, Bob (Kathy) Kerfeld of St. Cloud, Jo Ann (Ron) Tieman of Melrose, Gary (Cindy) Kerfeld of St. Stephen, Susan (Terry) Allison of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Peter (Phyliss "FiFi") Kerfeld of St. Cloud, John (LaVonne) Kerfeld of Duluth, Betty (Glen "Gopher") Meyer of Freeport; 28 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; three sisters, Olivia Eiynck Kimlinger of Waite Park, Marie Eiynck of Albany, and Rita Niehaus of Melrose.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna Kerfeld on May 9, 1996; daughter, Mary Jean Kerfeld; sisters and brothers, Adella Blommel, Eleanor Herzog, Lawrence and Hubert Kerfeld.

Serving as casket bearers will be his sons, Ken, Mark, Bob, Gary, Peter, and John Kerfeld. Cross bearer will be Jean Zwilling and scripture bearer will be Matt Kerfeld. Honorary bearers will be St. Joseph's Society, friends and neighbors.
