Rites held for Valda W, Schultz

Valda Woodsworth Schultz, 87, Sidney, MT, died Friday, Oct. 28th at Community Memorial Hospital in Sidney, MT. Her funeral was held Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 10 a.m. MDT at the Lonsdale United Methodist Church, Sidney. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare, ND, the same day.
Valda was born on August 24, 1901, near Watertown, SD, the daughter of Fred and Willora Parkinson. At the age of two she came with her parents to Carpio, ND area where they lived on a farm until 1910, when they moved to Donnybrook where she attended school. At the age of 13 she became a life-long member of the Methodist Church. She later taught school near Kenmare where she met John C. Schultz. on July 12, 1924, in Minot. They farmed and operated a dairy near Kenmare until 1960, when they retired. Her husband John died in 1962. She moved to Sidney, MT, in 1974 to be near her daughter and family. Valda lived at the Crestwood in for nine years.
She was a member of Lonsdale United Methodist Church in Sidney. While living near Kenmare ND, she was a member of the Methodist Church where she was active with the choir, Sunday School and youth activities. She enjoyed fishing and visiting friends but most of all she enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving her are: one daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Gloria) Helgeson of Sidney; four brothers, Leonard Parkinson of Kenmare ND, Fred Parkinson of Green Acres, WA, Murt Parkison of Marysville, WA, and Art Parkinson of Arlington, WA; one sister, Louise Frederick of Milton Free Water, OR; four grandchildren: Mrs. Jerry (Lynell) Kemp of Mandan, ND, Mrs. James (Kathleen) McGuire of Carpio, ND, James Helgeson of Roundup, MT, and Keith Helgeson of Idaho Falls, ID, and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; one brother, Wilford, and one sister, Orpha Sawyer.
Casket bearers were Cal Oraw, Dale Hawbaker, Charles Verlinde, Ronald Pumarlo, Roger Parkinson and Jerome Lautenschlager. Honorary casket bearers were her many friends from Crestwood Inn. Interment was in the Lakeview Cemetery in Kenmare, ND.
