Earl Joseph Smith, a retired public relations employee for the steamboat Natchez, died Tuesday at St. Anthony Nursing Home. He was 87. Mr. Smith was born in Addis and lived in Metairie for the past 33 years. He was a former public relations employee with the New Orleans Toye Brothers, Gray Line, Dixieland Tours and Southern Tours. Survivors include two daughters; two sisters, Ione England and Elaine Wilson; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 1 p.m. at Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home, 1600 N. Causeway Blvd., Metairie. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
