Shirley Ann (Scheinost) Roberts, daughter of Anton and Anne (Wesselman) Scheinost, was born December 26, 1935, at Verdigre, Nebraska. Shirley died Sunday, May 13, 2012, at Alpine Village in Verdigre.

Shirley grew up and attended school in the Verdigre area, a place that was always home. She graduated from Verdigre High School, and then attended nursing school in Sioux City, Iowa.

On January 21, 1957, Shirley was married to Donald Roberts at Elk Point, South Dakota. The couple was blessed with four children, Rose, Donna, Donald, and Cynthia.

Don made a career of serving his country in the United States Air Force, so Shirley and their young family moved where he was stationed, which included assignments at Hahn AFB in Germany; McCord AFB in Washington State; Puyallup, Washington; Trier, Germany; Lowell, Massachusetts; and Sioux City, Iowa.

While they lived many places during their marriage, Don and Shirley always were connected to Verdigre, having lived there several times, operating a service station together, and Shirley also worked in nursing at Alpine Village Retirement Center, before moving to Vermillion, South Dakota, where they lived at the time of Don's death.

After losing her husband, Shirley returned home to Verdigre, and began working at Berta's Bar and Grill and later, in the dietary and activities department at Alpine Village. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Verdigre, and her outgoing, caring, fun-spirited personality will be missed by all that had the privilege to know her.

Shirley is survived by: daughters, Rose Roberts of Waterford, Michigan, and Cynthia Roberts of Yankton, South Dakota; son, Donald (Brenda) Roberts of Waterford, Michigan; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Roma Walton of Verdigre, Nebraska; son-in-law, Steve Blase of Genoa, Nebraska and a host of relatives and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by: parents, Anton and Anne Scheinost; sister, Donna Mae Scheinost; husband, Don Roberts in 1992; daughter, Donna Blasé in 2007; and son-in-law, Dale Wynn in 2011.

Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery, Verdigre, NE.
