Carl Blumberg was born in Culm, Prussia. He was a teacher in Kokocko, Marienwerder District for many years. On September 12, 1845 he signed a contract with the Verein Zum Schutz Deutcher Einwanderer, which would bring his family to Texas. He, his wife Katherine Ruff Blumberg and his family, minus son August, sailed from Bremer Hafen on October 7 or 8, 1845 for Texas on the Neptune. They reached Galveston on November 25, 1845. Carl and Katherine were the parents of seven children:
Albertine Louisa, Julius Ferdinand, August, Henriette, Friedrich A., Ernst and Hulda.
Carl Blumberg died Nov. 5, 1853 of Yellow Fever. His bruial was the first at the Schummansville Cemetery.
