Karl Irving Faust was born in 1868 in Ossian, Iowa. He died August 2, 1935 in Long Beach City, where he had lived for many years. His wife was Rosa Doris Seibert Faust. They had two children: Kathryn Amanda Faust, who married a Eugene F. French; Lyman Irving Faust, who married Cathrine Eldora Miller. Karl Irving Faust's claim to fame is that he conceived of and carried out the publishing plan for "Campaigning in the Philippines," a well-known book about the Spanish-American War (1898) in the Philippines. There are several special, state editions of the book. Each special edition includes a history and roster of that state's regiment of volunteers that served in the Philippines, e.g. the 13th Minnesota, the 1st California, etc.
