Benjamin Maxwell Talbot, II, 83, of Lake Charles passed away Sunday May 13, 2012 in the comfort of his home with his family. He was born Oct. 26, 1928, the second of twins in the family home on East Broad Street in Lake Charles, LA.


Mr. Talbot was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles. He was a 1949 graduate of Louisiana State University where he obtained a Bachelor Degree in Agriculture, and an Army Reserve officer's commission with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He was a member of the Block and Bridal Club and was awarded the title of Grand Champion Cowboy that year. He remained an avid LSU alumni throughout his life. After graduation and getting married in 1950, he worked for a short period of time before being activated by the Army and sent to Korea. After being wounded during his service in Korea he returned home and resumed his career with Swift and Company where he worked nearly twenty years as a Cattle Buyer. He later changed careers and worked for over twenty years as a Probation Officer for the Department of Corrections, Probation and Parole, from which he retired as District Manager in 1993. He was a very dedicated and active member of Sale Street Baptist Church for over 40 years where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher until his recent illness. Mr. Talbot greatly enjoyed his time with family and close friends. Camping, fishing and hunting were activities that he treasured with his sons and grandsons. He also really enjoyed trying to keep up with just exactly how many grand and great grand kids he had!!


He leaves to honor his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Sally Spees Talbot of Lake Charles; six children; two daughters, Joan Brack and husband Gene, of Blue Grass, IA and Nancy Ernestine Booth and husband David of Lake Charles, LA; four sons, Ben Talbot and wife Elayne, Mark Talbot and wife Therese and Michael Talbot all of Lake Charles and David Talbot and wife Renee of Sulphur; eighteen grandchildren; Laura Shiltz, Capt. Stephen Brack, Charles Brack, Michael Brack, P.J. Brack, Brantley Booth, Ian Booth, Sean Booth, Austin Booth, Alisha Blessington, Benjamin (Ben) Maxwell Talbot III, Erin Edens, Kelsey Talbot, Lauren Talbot, Cole Talbot, Jennifer Talbot, Mark Talbot, Jr. and Kateri Land; twelve great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Bob) Talbot and wife Pat of Moss Bluff and sister-in law, Dorothy Talbot of Lake Charles. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mount William and Mary Vida (Fisher) Talbot; two sisters, Margie Talbot and Roselma (Talbot) Bartlett; one brother Mount William (Bill) Talbot, Jr. and a grandson, James Michael Brack.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 17, 2012 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverends Randy Edwards and Ernest Walker will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation Wednesday will be from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will continue Thursday from 12:00 PM until the time of service in the funeral home.

The family would like to express their deep love and appreciation to Virginia Lamar for her loving and compassionate care given to our father and our family during his extended illness. We would also like to express our gratitude to Dr. James Gaharan and his staff, Nicole Parfait, and Odyssey Hospice for their care and compassion.
