Update: DNA testing confirms parents were George Matthew Washington and Mary Ann Stedman (who died young). Paternal grandparents were Thomas Washington and Nancy Darlington of St. Clair county Alabama; formerly of Barnwell District, South Carolina. Maternal grandparents were Lt. James Alfred Stedman, Sr. and Nancy Ann Worthington Coates. George is a direct descendant of John, King of England; Henry III; Edward I; Edward II; and Edward III.

Married Jincy Halford d/o John C. Halford and Catherine Brown (Jincy was great niece of First Lady Martha Dandridge Custis Washington) and had 3 children from this marriage: Francis Marion, John C. and Catherine all born in AL. Baby Catherine and wife Jincy died in childbirth.

George then m2 Mary Ann McEwen in Muscogee, GA, in 1846 (spelled McCuin in record)and then had issue: James Hirum, Mary Ann, Elizabeth, Lucy Ann, George and Joseph Perry. They were found in 1850 Wetumpka, Coosa, AL 1850 U.S. Census, then removed to MS in about 1855-1856 with the McEwen and Halford families.

George's first son Francis married Louisa Archer, stayed behind in Coosa Co. AL and died in service 18th AL Inf. Co. I in Corinth, MS. George's son #2 John C. was a Dixie Rebel serving in 31st MS Infantry.

What's interesting about George is that both father-in-laws John C. Halford and Kirkham McEwen were Justices of the Peace: John in Simpson county Mississippi Territory 1820-1826 and Kirkham in Dadeville, Alabama.
