Pauline Bauer Combs was born September 29, 1919 in Merino, Logan Co. Colorado. Her parents, Gottifred Bauer and Eva Margaritha Karst Bauer were German immigrants from Russia. Pauline was the 8th child in a family of 12 children. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church and was faithful in her belief in God all her life. She would listen to the Lutheran hour on the radio when she couldn't attend the First Lutheran Church in Kennewick.
She married her childhood sweetheart, Byron Walter Combs on March 10, 1936 in Patricia, South Dakota. They had two children, Byron Lee, born November 10, 1937 in Belle Fourche, South Dakota, and Wanda Eve, born January 16, 1941 in Custer, South Dakota.

He later worked for the City of Kennewick as Superintendent of the Water Department for 25 years. Pauline worked as a cosmetologist for over 26 years.
She was a genealogist for many years. She researched and compiled a book, "The Bauer and Karst Family Tree", and researched the Combs Family back to the 1700's. She made many handmade quilts, giving them to her family.
She and her husband traveled to Hawaii many times and to both the East and West Coasts. They saw many historic places such as, the Vietnam Wall, Korean Memorial, Statue of Liberty, and Amish Country in Pennsylvania, Grand Canyon, Arizona Memorial in Hawaii, Niagara Falls, Smithsonian Institution and many more.
