SULLIVAN - Herbert N. Warns, 84, of Sullivan, formerly of Onarga, died at 2:10 a.m. Sunday (May 11, 2003) at the Illinois Masonic Home, Sullivan.
Mr. Warns was born June 10, 1918, in Donovan, a son of George A. and Elizabeth A. Brumund Warns. He married Dorothy Virkus on Dec. 1, 1946, in Onarga. She survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Donna Dabney of Richmond, Va.; a son, Ed Warns of Ogden; a brother, William Warns of El Dorado Hills, Calif.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant son and three brothers.
Mr. Warns was a retired farmer and former owner of Warns Equipment Co. in Onarga. He also worked as a small-engine mechanic at Big R in Watseka.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as an engineer to help rebuild the Burma Road.
He was former president of the Onarga school board and a member of the Onarga United Methodist Church, Onarga American Legion and Onarga Masonic Lodge 305.
Funeral services were held at the Illinois Masonic Home Chapel, 1 Masonic Way, Highway 121, Sullivan.
Burial was in Onarga Cemetery, with military rites accorded.
Reed Funeral Home, 1112 S. Hamilton St., Sullivan, was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
