From the Oil City News:

George W. Crawford was an Emlenton boy. Born around 1858, he grew up in Emlenton during the days of the early oil excitement. Around 1880, he was an oil gauger on leases in this area.

He later became prominent in the oil and gas industries and accumulated considerable wealth. He was instrumental in consolidating the Ohio fuel Supply Company and the Columbia Gas and Electric Company, which at that time had headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio. The consolidation became known as the Columbia System and is now the Third largest utility company in the U.S.

Mr Crawford moved to Pittsburgh around 1920 but maintained a residence in Emlenton as long as he lived. About 1930, he married Annie Laurie Warmack and to them was born a daughter, Martha Sharp Crawford (Most famously known as Sunny Von Bulow).

In his latter years, Mr. Crawford returned to Emlenton only to vote. He died in 1935 and is buried in the family vault in the Emlenton Cemetery.

Since his death, Mrs. Crawford and her daughter have maintained a residence in New York City and another, called "Tamerlane" at Greenwich, Connecticut.
