Two bodies recovered from Lake Kegonsa on Friday afternoon are those of two teenage girls reported missing the night before, the Dane County Sheriff's Office confirmed.

The girls were identified as Emma Maurer, 16, of Stoughton, and Sydnie Kwiatkowski, 16, of Footville.

The girls were reported missing shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday from an area near 2100 Williams Drive in the Town of Pleasant Springs. The teens had been with friends on a Lake Kegonsa beach in La Follette County Park, but the friends, who last saw the two about 4 p.m., left the area for a brief time.

When they returned they found personal items belonging to the girls. Family members contacted 911 when the girls could not be located.

Authorities searching the lake recovered the body of one of the girls shortly after noon Friday. The body of the second girl was recovered shortly after 4 p.m. and both were found near the area where their personal items were discovered.

Foul play was not suspected, authorities said.
