Joseph Harpenau, 49, retired farmer, died at his home Monday, June 15, after a long illness. He was born May 26, 1904, and married Mary Neubel Jan. 22, 1930, at Le Mars. he farmed near here and near Remsen until a year ago when he retired and moved to Le Mars.
Surviving are the widow; two daughters, Karen and Joline at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hapenau of Le Mars, six brothers, Rev. Leo Harpenau of Sioux Rapids, Al of Le Mars, John, Henry, Anthony and Isadore, all of Remsen and four sister, Mrs. Anton Kolbeck of Humboldt, S.D., Mrs. Marvin Kolbeck of Le Mars, Mrs. Edmund Miller of Sioux City and Mrs. Joseph Schwarz of Merrill.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic church. Mr. Harpenau's brother, Leo, read the solemn requiem mass. Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of the Wiltgen-Luedtke funeral home.
