The Billings Gazette, February, 1957:

Mrs. Katharine Steinmetz, 53, of 305 ½ S. 35th St. died at 3 a.m. Friday in a Billings hospital of cancer. She had been ill two years.

Mrs. Steinmetz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Maier, was born Dec. 5, 1903, in Russia. She came to Canada with her parents when she was 18 months old, and the family moved to Billings in 1916. The family moved to Blue Creek the same year, and later lived in Hardin.

She was married to Henry F. Steinmetz in Billings in September 1921. She became a citizen of the United States in 1940, and had been a resident of Yellowstone County continuously since 1943.

Mrs. Steinmetz was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran church.

Surviving Mrs. Steinmetz are five sons: Henry, Ruben, Melvin, James, and Daniel Steinmetz; four daughters: Johanna Heimbichner, June Wittman, Betty Anthony, and Shirley Newman; her mother; two brothers: Henry Maier of Billings and Jack Maier of Canada; four sisters: Mrs. George Weis of Billings, Mrs. Alex Weis of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Mrs. Conrad Lofing of Pompeys Pillar, and Mrs. George Harper of Laurel; and 15 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 27th, in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church. Smith's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Mountview Cemetery.
