Came to the United States in 1882 and settled in Washington county Kansas. There he met and married his first wife, Catharine Wichmann. In 1984 moved to a farm in the Wisner, Nebraska. Catharine died in 1901 and in 1902 he married Anna Heerman.

Died 7 hrs after a car-train collision near Swedeburg, Nebaska. He was taken to a hospital in Fremont.
