INTERESTING FACT:
Samuel gave a horse to his wife's sister, Mary Ball. This Mary Ball was later, Mrs. Augustine Washington (FaG# 2870) and mother to President George Washington. Samuel's sister was Rebecca Bonum Eskridge. She married Col. George Eskridge (#16211162). Col. Eskridge was Mary Ball's guardian from her mother's death in 1721 until she married Augustine in 1731. It is said that she named her first born (#1075) after her beloved guardian. In Mary's memorial, it is stated that she split her time between Sandy Point, Col. Eskridge's plantation, and Cherry Point, owned then by Samuel's widow, Elizabeth Johnson Bonum, Mary's half-sister.

NOTE REGARDING BURIAL:
As the Chairman of the Cemetery Committee of the Westmoreland County, VA History Documentation Committee, I can tell you there is no such cemetery as Cople Parish Cemetery in Westmoreland Co., VA.

It is not known where George Eskridge and his family are buried! He was most likely buried on his plantation at Sandy Point or possibly in the cemetery at Yeocomico Episcopal. But the Parish Records that would prove or disprove this fact were burned in a fire at the Rectory in 1914.

Because of the above stated facts, I believe you should change the place of burial to UNKNOWN. They way this memorial reads it leads people to believe that his burial site is known and if they look for this cemetery will not be able to find it.

We do not want to give people the wrong information.

Thank you for your time and attention in this matter.
Sincerely,
Dal Mallory #46586597
