Doris Kimmel Reid Mullin died on March 6, 2003 in Warrensburg, MO, leaving behind her beloved husband of 48 years, Ralph Fillmore Mullin. She is also survived by her sister, Janet Reid Christie of Redmond, WA and brother, W. Thomas Reid of Wichita, KS, two daughters, Janet Mullin Marta and Judy Mullin, a son-in-law, Dale C. Marta, and five grandchildren, Christy Fasanello, Daniel Marta, Terri Fasanello Ham, Jonathan Marta and Michael Marta. Her life bequeathed to her family, and to everyone who knew her, gifts of love and faith. She made the world a better place, but she was no saint in a pastel shroud. Doris had a streak of silliness, wit, and orneriness that made life a little lighter. She listened to people and treated all of us as if we were solid and worthy. God called her by name many years ago, an experience she shared by word and example through the rest of her 71 years. Now He has called her home, but she leaves everyone she touched better for her life.

Doris Kimmel Reid was born October 29, 1931 in Wichita, KS, to Lela V. and William H. Reid. She graduated from Wichita East High School and went on to earn a B.A. in Psychology in the Washburn University class of 1953. In 1981 she earned a M.A. in Counseling/Psychology from the University of South Florida. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, PEO, Sinawik, and CLIMB. She was very involved in the Warrensburg Food Center, with responsibility for volunteer staffing and helping clients. A lifelong Episcopalian, she was active in Daughters of the King, Cursillo, Marriage Encounter, altar guilds, vestries and was a lay pastor.

Doris was diagnosed with progressive supranuclear palsy in 1997, though the disease had been developing for almost a decade by then. "PSP is a fatal degeneration brain disorder that has no known cause, treatment, or cure" (from the Society for PSP newsletter). Because PSP is so rare, very little research is funded.

The service of thanksgiving for her life, and for God's promise of resurrection through Christ, was held at Christ Episcopal Church in Warrensburg on March 9, 2003. Memorial gifts may be directed to Christ Episcopal Church, Altar Fund, PO Box 3, Warrensburg, MO 64093 or The Society for PSP (call Executive Director Ellen Katz (1-800-457-4777).
