Exploding a shotgun shell through his head, Henry Lien, farmer south of Cooperstown, was instantly killed 7:30 o'clock last Saturday morning at his f arm home. A coroner's jury called by Dr. L. Almklov, county coroner, pronounced the death suicide and gave financial difficulties as the motive.
By placing the butt of the gun against the wall of the house, he pushed the trigger and the explosion mutilated the upper part of the skull. Mrs. Lein heard the shot and upon investigation found the body.
Born in Fillmore County, Minnesota on August 5, 1879, Mr. Lien was 53 years old. He had lived with his family on the Conrad Wuflestad farm in Sverdrup Township during the last two years.
Mr. Lien spent his boyhood at his birthplace and in 1902 he moved with his parents to Clark County, South Dakota. At that place three years later he was married to Gena Hendrickson.
After farming at Clark until 1917, the family moved to Goodridge, Minnesota, where they lived for eleven years. The moved to Comstock, Minn., ibn 1929, and remained there until they came to Griggs County in 1931.
There are eleven children in the family and all survive their father.
Relatives who survive are his widow, Gena: six daughters, Hattie, Helen, Mae, Anna, Ruby and Vivian; five sons, Howard, Myron, Irwin, Glen and Harry. All live at home with the exception of Mr. and Mrs. Myron Lien who reside at Fargo.
He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Anna Lien; six sisters, Betsey Grimley, Hilda Amundson, Lily Farrin, Mabel Moen, Alma Hlarack and Lena Amundson; and five brothers, Peter, Edwin, Anton, John and Lester Lien.
His father preceded him in death in the year 1914.
Funeral services were held at the Westley Church 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon with Rev. G. Stenolen officiating. interment was made in the Westley church Cemetery.
