HAMPTON - Herman Leonard Ashe, 81, passed away at his home on Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Ashe was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. He retired in 1973 from Supship, Department of the Navy, at Newport News Shipbuilding after 25 years of service. He also retired from Noland Co. in 1996. His real love was house-building. He was responsible for the construction of many homes on the Peninsula.
He is survived by his wife, Geneva Sealey Ashe; his daughter and son-in-law, June and Brad Mouring of Hampton; son, Linwood Ashe of Newport News; brothers, Kelly and Jack Ashe of Hampton, Carl Ashe of Florida and Robert Ashe of North Carolina; a sister, Nellie Wilson of Newport News; stepmother, Ethel Ashe of North Carolina; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, Dec. 29, at the W.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ian King officiating. Burial will be in Peninsula Memorial Park.
