CUMBERLAND,MARYLAND -- Dorothy Barbara Ruthenberg, 91, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord, on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 19, 1920 in Wauwatosa, Wis., she was the daughter of the late Frank Horigan and Katherine (Majchrzeka) Horigan.

She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Walter W. Ruthenberg; sister, Vivian Moser; and brother, Robert Horigan.

Dorothy was a 30 year cancer survivor. She retired after working in the grocery business for 25 years. She graduated from South Division High School in 1937. She moved to Maryland in 1979 with her husband, Walter and they resided in the Frostburg and Cumberland areas.

She loved crossword puzzles, watching Lawrence Welk on Saturday nights, evenings out with family and friends, and vacations in northern Wisconsin. Dorothy was a member of Moose Lodge 348 and the American Legion Post 13. She was a Catholic by faith and attended St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg, until she was unable to do so. She prayed with the rosary every day and received Communion weekly, our sincere thanks to Kathy Mattingly.

She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Mueller and husband Robert; two sons, Ronald Ruthenberg and wife Amanda, David Ruthenberg and wife Lynn; three grandchildren, Jacqueline Mueller, Jeffrey Ruthenberg, and Steven Ruthenberg; three great-grandchildren, Madison, Jensen and Hannah Ruthenberg.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland (www.scarpellifh.com) on Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 7 p.m. with Fr. Bernard Finerty, O.F.M. Cap. officiating.

In lieu of flowers donations may be in honor of Dorothy's memory to Allegany College of Maryland, Walter Ruthenberg Scholarship Foundation, 12401 Willowbrook Road, Cumberland, MD 21502.
