Obituary from _____

"Mrs. John Craft (Lydia Maria Decius) died at her home, July 5 [1900], after a lingering illness [tuberculosis]. Funeral services were held at her late residence on N. Chestnut street, on Saturday afternoon July 7. A large gathering of relatives, neighbors and friends being present. Samuel S. Gibson, her pastor, conducted the ceremony. Internment in the Elm Grove cemetery.

"Mrs. Craft was 51 years and 24 days of age;—was born in Van Wert county, O. and was married to John Craft May 24, 1868. To this union was born four children, one having preceded her to the better world. Those remaining are Mrs. Nellie Bowser, of Cleveland, Mr. Harry and Miss Lucy Craft, of St. Marys.

"Mrs. Craft became a member of the Baptist church February 21, 1886. She was true to her church, and tried to live as a faithful Christian. In the month of her suffering she expressed confidence in her Savior, and found great comfort in His presence, when she realized that death must soon come. She was a member of the "Relief Corps." In that work she was always interested, and her sister workers attended the funeral in a body, took part in the services at the grove, and thus attested their appreciation of her worth.

"Mrs. Craft recognized that her first work, as a Christian woman, was in the home as wife and mother, and here she made the deepest impression. Husband, son and daughter mourn deeply their loss. The church will miss her presence in the sanctuary, and her work in the church mite society.

"The family with this express their thanks to all who kindly helped and sympathized."

Lydia's father was Ammon Pangle Decious, who left his wife, Catherine, when their son Hiram was but one year old, to seek his fortune out west in Oregon. Ammon never returned, and when Hiram was an adult, Catherine asked him to go and search for his father, whom he found.

Lydia died of tuberculosis. Her son, Harry, died of TB just a year later, and her daughter, Lucy, the following year. Lucy's husband died of TB two years after Lucy's death, leaving their young son Arthur without parents.
