AVA -- Ronald D. Koch, 62, passed away at 4:15 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012, in St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro.

Ron was born June 12, 1950, in Murphysboro, the son of Herman William and Wilma Zang Koch.

He married Dorothy "Dot" Dagner on Saturday, Aug. 14, 1971, in Immanuel Lutheran Church, West Point.

Ron was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was retired from Burning Star 4 mine in Cutler. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in West Point; the BBK American Legion Post 480, Steeleville; and the UMW of A. Ron was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Ron is survived by his wife, Dorothy "Dot" Koch of Ava; four daughters, Justine (Jimmy) Dawson of Imperial, Mo., Tosha (Mike) Fults of Ava, Shana (Shane) Owens of Ava and Kaytee Koch of Ava; five grandchildren, Megan and Cory Fults, Colleen Dawson, Trenton Koch and Zane Owens; brothers, Delbert Koch of Steeleville and Wilbert (Barbara) Koch of Steeleville; sister, Marilyn (Fred) Kundee of St. Louis Park, Minn.; mother-in-law, Genice Dagner of Ava; several in-laws, nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Rudy.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donald Koch; and one sister, Darlene Winters.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 2, in Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava, with the Rev. Tim McIntyre officiating. Burial will be in Ava Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
