Myra Eva Cone was born to Wilford and Daisy Cone, June 17, 1920, at the Epworth Hospital in Liberal, Kansas. She lived in Dombey Community, Texas County and attended Eureka Schools, Bakersburg, Oklahoma. The family then moved to Beaver County where she enrolled in Turpin Public School and graduated from Turpin High in 1938. She was active in basketball, track and other school activities.

After graduation she enrolled at Northwestern State college in Alva, Oklahoma. Here she met her future husband, Marvin Clyde Leist, of Muskogee, Oklahoma. Soon after their marriage on January 3, 1942, Marvin joined the Navy. Myra returned home to Dombey to stay with her mother until the war ended.

After the war she and Marvin returned to Northwestern State College. They lived in renovated prisoner of war barracks and finished their college degrees. Both became teachers and Myra taught for 32 years and loved her students and teaching. She still kept in touch with many of them.

She and Marvin were involved in the Institute for Foreign Studies and took three groups of students to study in France for eight weeks. They toured England, France, and Switzerland. After Marvin passed away in 1985, Myra still traveled extensively in the United States and Europe and had the distinction of watching the Berlin Wall being torn down as they traveled through Check Point Charlie. One of her highlights was attending the Oberammergau Passion Play. Myra also traveled to many other countries as well as Hawaii and Alaska. Myra enjoyed her children, M.C. Leist Jr. and Barbara Jean. She and Marvin loved to spend time traveling with their five grandchildren. Then the true joy came with the addition of each new generation of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, M.C. Leist and wife Nancy of Morris, Oklahoma, her daughter, Barbara and husband, Robert Freed of Okeene, Oklahoma, five grandchildren; Benita and husband Jimmy Casselman, Donna and husband Doug Olinger, Brion Leist and wife Vickie, Kristal Randall and husband Brian, Kim Houk and husband Joe; great-grandchildren; Jessica James and Michael Casselman, Daniel and Mason Martin, Tiffany and Briton Leist, Laura and Shane Randall, Andrew, Austin and Alexander Houk; great-great grandchildren; Allie and Gracey Leist; one brother Elbert Cone. She leaves her beloved, long-time family friends; Marge Coulter, Alvaro Henao and family, the Norman Krug family and a host of family and friends. In addition, she considered her extended family a bonus to her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marvin, and sister-in-law Ruby Cone.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or school of your choice in memory of Myra.
