Dresbach, Minn. - Mrs. John A. Carson, 88, died at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday at her home on Dresbach ridge, about a mile west of the village, after a long illness.
Mrs. Carlson was born at Rastede, Oldenburg, Germany, January 18, 1850, a daughter of Henry and Christina (Grabhorn) Zisch, and came to the United States with her parents in 1852 in a sailing vessel. The voyage took 110 days and the family landed in New Orleans, La.
From there the family moved to Evansville, Ill., where Mrs. Carson spent her girlhood. In the spring of 1870 she came to Dresbach with her mother, two sisters and two brothers. Her father had previously died and her mother and brothers and sisters have since died.
She was married here June 30, 1870, and had since lived on the farm home on Dresbach ridge. Mrs. Carson is survived by her husband; five children, Henry of Dresbach, John at home, Mrs. William Gerdes (Minnie) of Pine Creek and Mrs. Mitchell Gerdes (Helen) of La Crescent; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A daughter Lily died about 40 years ago.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. at the home and at 2 p.m. at the Dresbach Methodist church. The Rev. Glen Teska will officiate and burial will be in the Dresbach cemetery.
