Mary Esther Osborn Jaeger
(August 25, 1932 ~ July 09, 2012)
25 August 1932 — 9 July 2012

***

Mary Esther Osborn Jaeger went home to be with the Lord on July 9, 2012 following a long struggle with Parkinson's disease and a degenerative heart valve.

Mary was born to the late Ralph Justin Osborn and Goldie Mae Cummins Osborn in Laura, Ohio on August 25, 1932 and joined the family as they returned to the family farm in rural Columbus, Kansas.

She graduated from Riverton High School in 1950.

Upon earning her Diploma of Nursing from St. John's School of Nursing in Joplin, Missouri, she joined the United States Navy Nurse Corp where she achieved the rank of Lieutenant. While serving her country in Corpus Christi, Tx she met Lieutenant Wallace Louis Jaeger. September 27, 1958 the two were wed in Mary's life-long home church, Riverton Friends Church.

Upon departure from the military the family was active at Tilson United Friends Church and resumed farming at their home in rural Rosendale, New York.

When Mary's father retired from farming, they moved back to farm in rural Columbus, Kansas.

Mary quickly resumed her devotion to the community by maintaining membership at Riverton Friends Church, serving on the Riverton PTO Board, all while keeping her children active in 4-H, FFA, and school drama, music, and sports. Her entire adulthood she was a nurse in the community for friends and family as well as at St. John's Regional Medical Center. She was recognized for her long-standing excellence in nursing and retired from St. John's.

Mary was always sharing her love of gardening and baking with her beloved children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was looking forward to her reunion in Heaven. Proverbs 30:30-31 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands: and let her own works praise her in the gates. Mary strived for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren's salvation and education.

She leaves behind her loving husband Wallace, son Max Jaeger and his wife Elise, of Joplin, Mo., son Scott Jaeger and his wife Alisha of Alba, Tx., daughter Mary Scott and her husband Mark of Dearing, Ks, son Wesley Jaeger and his wife Chasinee of rural Columbus, KS, son James Jaeger and his wife Judith of Wichita, KS, son John Jaeger and his wife Tammy of Riverton, KS; daughter Elizabeth Tatham and her husband Christopher of Olathe, KS, and daughter Amy Jaeger (Bruton) Root of Riverton, KS. There was one mistake in the obituary which did not include a sibling who died at birth in 1943.

I have attached 3 photos of Mom, one from her HS graduation, one from her graduation from St. John's Nursing School, and one when she was serving as Head Nurse at St. Johns.

Nursing was her passion. When she had a dying patient without family, she would be there so that they were not alone. Often this was on her own time. She would also sit with a dying patient to allow their loved ones a respite.

She was born into the Friends (Quaker) Church and exemplified it throughout her life. Many people knew her because of the compassion and care they got from her at the hospital.

Thank you,

Wesley
