Business Man Passes Away
in Florida

Frank Essig Ward, 63, well known Gladwin business man, died Saturday morning in Clearwater, Fla., while on a winter vacation at the home of his sister. Funeral services will be held here Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. John R. Scott, assisted by the Rev. William T. Elliott, will officiate at the rites and burial will be in Highland cemetery under the auspices of the Gladwin Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Ward had operated the farm implement, hardware and lumber business here since January, 1935, when he purchased the property from W. E. Woodward, and was the active head of the business until he suffered a heart ailment about a year ago.

Mr. Ward was born in Owosso on June 9, 1890, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. Wellington Ward. He was educated in the Owosso schools and attended Owosso Business College. He married the former Grace Allmendinger in 1919 and they made their home in Royal Oak while he was employed by the Ford Motor Company before coming to Gladwin.

Mr. Ward served two terms as a member of the Gladwin school board of education and as county bond chairman during World War II. He was affiliated with the Gladwin Methodist Church, a life member of the Gladwin Masonic Lodge, Bay City Consistory, Saginaw Elf Khurafeh Temple, a charter member and past president of the Gladwin Rotary Club. He is survived by his wife, Grace; one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Hubbs; two sisters, Mrs. T.A. Gladden of Detroit and Mrs. Stone Oberg of Clearwater, Fla.; and one brother, Wellington Ward, of Birmingham. Gladwin County Record dated 2-17/1954 Column – 8 Page – 1.
