Barry S. Smith, age 56, of Bonner Springs, KS, and formerly of Cameron, MO, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2004, at the Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, KS. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday, January 26, at the Bonner Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the AldenHarrington Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society in care of Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, 214 Oak St., Bonner Springs, KS 66012, (913) 422-4074.
Barry was born on November 22, 1947, in Excelsior Springs, MO. He was raised in Cameron, MO, where he attended Cameron Schools graduating from Cameron High School. Barry served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Later he moved to Kansas City, KS, where he worked for the Board of Public Utilities as a Machinist. He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Wilma Smith, one brother, David Smith, and one sister, Lela Hatfield, and a granddaughter, Anastasia Nicole.
Survivors include his wife, Marcia Smith of the home; daughters, Stephanie Smith of Gladstone, MO, Nicole Smith of Osborn, MO, Lacy Wards of Bonner Springs, KS; and son, Craig Kobe of Kansas City, KS; two grandsons, Cyle Kobe and Cameron Kobe; and one sister, Nancy Vestal of Decatur, TX.
