Mary Lou Knepper, 82, of Warsaw, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 3:20 PM in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Mary Lou was born June 4, 1930 in Warsaw to Doyle G and Sarah (Minard) Swanson. She was a 1948 graduate of Atwood High School and attended Manchester College for 2 years where she was working toward her Teaching Certificate. On August 4, 1950, Mary Lou and Jerry L. Knepper were joined in marriage in Etna Green, Indiana.

While still in high school Mary Lou worked for Warsaw Coil in its beginning when located in Bourbon, Indiana. She continued to work for Warsaw Coil after the company moved to Warsaw; Mary Lou worked in the catalog department at Warsaw's Sears and Roebuck. She also worked several years for the US Postal System delivering mail to Warsaw's Rural Route 4.

Mary Lou was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Atwood where in years past she sang in the choir, served on its administration board and taught Sunday School. She was a part of the Prairie Township Home Ec Club, Kosciusko County Choir and the Purdue Extension Choir. Mar Lou was a Girl Scout leader when her daughter, Jackie, was young. She taught all in her troop how to sew using a treadle sewing machine. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and crafts in general and entered some of her projects in the open class competitions. In her earlier years she canned what was brought in from her garden. She enjoyed NASCAR with Ryan Newman being her favorite driver.

Those who will treasure memories of Mary Lou in their hearts include her husband of almost 62 years, Jerry L. Knepper of Atwood; daughter and son-in-law: Jackie and Jerry Clase of Etna Green; 3 grandchildren and their spouses: Karen and Richard Olds of Warsaw; Shelina Ann and Michael Pring of St. Joe, Indiana and George and Kelsey Phillips of Etna Green; a step granddaughter Kim (and her significant other, Jared Peters) Clase of Etna Green; 13 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Dan G. Swanson (1951) and an infant daughter, Debra Kay Knepper (1951).

Family and friends will gather to share memories and conversation as they support each other on Saturday, July 28th from 9-10 AM in Otterbein United Methodist Church, Atwood. A service celebrating the life of Mary Lou Knepper will begin then at 10 AM with Pastor Jerry Thomas of the church officiating. Burial will follow in Etna Green Cemetery.
