Pierre Weekly Free Press, Pierre, SD, 19 Apr 1906, page 5:
"Friday afternoon death relieved from suffering Mrs. G. Bergen at St. Mary's hospital. The deceased has been an invalid for a year or more, and all that surgical skill or medicine could do has been brought to bear to prolong her life for the past three months, but to no avail. Mrs. Bergen, nee Gertrude Aline Jacobsen, was married to Gus Bergen, Jr., in September 1895, when sixteen years of age. She has always been a devoted wife and mother, and leaves to mourn her death her husband and a son eight years old, besides her father, two sisters and five brothers. The funeral services were held at the Baptist church Monday afternoon, a large number of the friends and neighbors of the deceased attending and following the remains to the burial in Riverside cemetery."
