David A. Familo , 61, of 56 Riverside Drive,Canton,died Friday at home.
Born in Oswego, he moved to Canton 10 years ago. He graduated from Oswego High School, and received a bachelor's degree in classical and romance languages from St. Bonaventure University. He was a French and Latin teacher in the Hannibal Central, Cato-Meridian and Greater Johnstown Central school districts. He retired as a language teacher for St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES in the Gouverneur and Harrisville central school districts.
He was the host and general announcer for North Country Public Radio and WMSA, Massena. He was a past president of the Italian Club of Fulton, and a member of the Oswego and Red Creek/Hannibal Community Theater, Foreign Language Teachers of Central New York, New York State United Teachers and Classical Association of Empire State.
Survivors: His wife, the former Joanne Figiera of Potsdam; a daughter, Cara Harrington of Potsdam; three sons, Donald of Martville, Daniel of Kent, Wash., and Steven of North Tonawanda; his mother, Eileen Knopp Familo of Syracuse ; five brothers, Albert, Kenneth and Michael, all of Oswego, James of Hannibal and Robert of Fulton; three grandchildren.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Sugar Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Fulton. Burial, St. Peter's Cemetery, Oswego.
