L, 4th Ohio Inf. on Mexican border duty. Emarked on USS Agamemnon on Oct. 31, 1917 from Hoboken NJ landing at Brest France on Nov. 17, 1917. Fought in Champagne sector; Marne Defensive; and Suippes. Wounded by large German Shell on July 19, 1918 while on the way to the rear, after his platoon had been relieved from front line during enemy defensive in the Champagne sector. Died July 29, at Base Hospital 116, France. Buried in American Cemetery, Bozoilles-sur-Meuse, Vosgez, France. Disinterred and brought to US June 20 and laid to rest in Lancaster. Double funeral at Lancaster Armory with Pliny Weber.
