Funeral services for Norman J. Jipson, 82, a resident of Morris, formerly of the Herman and Norcross area, were held Monday, June 24 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Morris with the Rev. Curly J. Werth officiating. Interment was at Artichoke Lake Cemetery, Artichoke Township, Big Stone County.
Mr. Jipson died Friday morning, June 21, at his residenc in Morris after a short illness with cancer.
Visitation was held Sunday afternoon and evening from 4-8 p.m. at the Olson-Peterson Funeral Home; also, visitation was held at the church one hour prior to time of services.
Music was provided by the pianist, Joyce Werth, with Congreational Hymns, "Amazing Grace" and "I Need Thee Every Hour." A trio with Bev Bartell and the Rev. and Mrs. Curly Werth sang "Precious Lord" and Learning to Lean." Pam and Jenny Gustafson wer the accompanist for the trio.
Casketbearers were Dale Blume, Willis Volker, Bernard Volker, Duane Touhey, Mike Hohre and Terry Christians.
Norman Joseph Jipson was born November 7, 1902, at Moneta, Iowa to Norman Josiah and Sarah M. (Bartlett) Jipson.
Norman was educated at Moneta, Iowa. He married Esther Root on May 31, 1934 at Arnolds Park, Iowa. The couple farmed near Moneta until 1942 when they moved to Minnesota. For twenty years the couple lived at Norcross, and in February of 1984 they moved to Morris. For the past two months he has been ill with cancer.
Norman was very compassionate towards animals.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Morris.
Survivors include his wife, Esther, Morris; four sons, Raymond and Joseph, Portland, Oregon, Donald, Hancock, Marvin, Breckenridge; three daughters, Mildred Fleischfresser, Morris, Linda (Mrs. Clifford) Hatelstad, Herman, Marian (Mrs. Randy) Wenz, Morris; 18 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son; one grandson, Rodney Norman; four brothers and five sisters.
