KORDA, Robert Alan (October 4, 1940 Far Rockaway, NY; d. July 8, 2009 Glendale, CA – Abbey of the Psalms Rotunda Columbarium, 1st flr) Korda began taking violin lessons from his brother Murray at the age of 3. The family moved to Los Angeles in 1947 and Korda was accepted into the Meremblum Youth Symphony Orchestra. He played in quarter and trio concerts before joining the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 1960 – retiring in 1980. In 1963 at the request of Conrad Hilton, Murray Korda assembled the Monseigneur Strings for the Beverly Hills Hotel restaurant which Robert would participate in when not playing with the Philharmonic. Korda was married to Venida Schartoff, a nursery school teacher and they had three children. Murray died in a 1998 auto accident in Vermont. Korda went missing and investigators were unable to find him nor were family members who tried repeatedly to call. His body was discovered at the LA City Coroner's office on July 12 – his name had been mistakenly entered at Robert Norda. Korda had died from a massive coronary.
