By 1908 Marie's eldest three children, Jacob, David and Emilie (Millie) removed to Portland, Multnomah, Oregon. Jacob and wife Katharina moved with their children while David and Millie soon met and married establishing ties to the community. By 1910 Marie and Johann joined their family in Portland bringing their youngest daughter, Eugena (Jean) with them. Jacob returned to Michigan soon after.
As a shoemaker Johann "John" established a shoe shop in the city. John, Marie, and Jean lived above the shop as the business thrived. Marie developed liver cancer dying at home in 1913. Within 5 years John returned to Saginaw, Michigan where he opened another shoe repair business and later remarried.
Marie is remembered by her daughter, Jean, as a kind, loving, hard working woman. During her illness she never complained. For many decades her children left flowers on her grave frequently never forgetting their beloved mother.
To date her parent's remain unknown.
