Sherry was the younger of two daughters born to Orville Simon and Laura Dunn. Her older sister was Onalee Dorothy Simon Sutherby (b.1835. I found them on the 1940 Census, living in a duplex at 20 Ensly St. in Oxford, Oakland Co., Michigan, where Sherry's father Orville was an inspector in an auto factory. Sherry's beloved, widowed, grandmother Corelia was living in the other half of the duplex and helping care for her two granddaughters.

Sherry's mother divorced and married George Harvey White (b.1823 TN) with whom she would have two more daughters--Debra Valerie (b.1948 MI) and Kim Marie (b.1952).

Sherry's first marriage was to James "Bud" McGaughey, with whom she had two children--Lorrie and James "Jimmy". Her second marriage was to David Herman Berndt, with whom she had two children--Marchella and Jeffrey "Jeff". The family settled in Holly, living in the Berndt family homestead on Grange Hall Rd. David drove an oil tanker for a living, and together they managed a 60-acre truck farm.

At the time of her death, Sherry was working part time at the Holly Donut Shop and managing a bedding plants business in the spring of each year. She was an avid gardener and reader, and a wonderful cook. She loved flowers and birds, and left behind a menagerie that included three dogs, six cats, and a burro named Pepe.

She was claimed by cancer. Nana Sherry will be especially missed by her two great-grandchildren who were a great joy to her.
