Oldest Resident Dies Monday Evening
George Jahn, 94, Jefferson's oldest resident, died at his farm home on route 3, just north of the city limits early Monday evening. He had been ill about six weeks.
Mr Jahn was born in Bavaria, Germany on 15 May 1844. Four years later he moved to this country with his parents, the late Mr and Mrs John Jahn, his father purchasing a tract of land from the government and settling on it. For the past 90 years Mr Jahn has made his home continuously on the same farm and up until 6 years ago actively helped in operating it.
On 25 December 1869, he married Anna Reuhl of Helenville and took her to the family homestead to live. Seven children were born to them, two sons and a daughter and his wife preceding him in death.
Surviving are two sons, Henry and Lewis at home, Mrs John Sommerer, Helenville, and Mrs John Kiltz of Jefferson.
Always hale and active, Mr Jahn was a man of sterling character and strong ability. He was held in highest esteem in the township in which he spent more than the average lifetime, where he was known as a public spirited citizen whose neighborly friendship and assistance were always ready in time of stress.
Funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Jahn home, the Rev O. Kuhlow officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery.
