Sophia Bruder, aged 3, arrived in the U.S. on April 30, 1879, aboard the S.S. Canada, which sailed from Le Havre, France to New York, NY. She travelled with her mother, Anna Bruder, aged 37, and siblings, Jean (John) Bruder, aged 9, Lina Bruder, aged 4, and Louie (Ludwig) Bruder, aged six months. Her father, Louis Bruder, aged 40, a laborer, born in Switzerland, had arrived in the U.S. on October 9, 1878 aboard the S.S. Labrador which sailed from Le Havre, France to New York, NY.
In 1880, Sophia Bruder, aged 4, was living in New York City, NY, in the home of her parents, Ludwig Bruder, aged 42, and Mary Bruder, aged 43, with siblings, John Bruder, aged 9, and Lena Bruder, aged 5. Her father was shown to be a silk weaver.
In 1930, Sophie Brutschy, aged 54, was living on Lakeland Avenue, Sayville, Islip, NY, with her husband, Joseph Brutschy, aged 60, and children, Frank De La Vergne, aged 19, and Margaret De La Vergne, aged 15. Her husband was shown to be a house painter and decorator.
Obituary - Mrs. Sophie Brutschy, 91, of 36 Amity Street, Patchogue, died Sunday at the Patchogue Nursing Home. Born in Switzerland, she had lived in Patchogue eight years.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jessie Anderson of Patchogue and Mrs. Marguerite Kreeb of Lake Ronkonkoma; 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. yesterday at the Ruland Funeral Home, Rev. Richard C. Chapin, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, officiating. Interment was in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Patchogue.
