Karl was cremated and his ashes place here with the ashes of his son, Horst Kisch, who predeceased him by a few years. Horst is not listed on the marker. Horst is listed in the Cemetery office as Ernest Horst Kisch.
After WW II the Romanian Government needed to pay their war debt to the U.S.S.R. To do this, they sent soldiers around the country to collect, mostly, citizens with German names. They were marched to the Russian Ukraine to work on Collective Farms. Karl and his two oldest daughters were forced to go there. They worked on a potato farm. They had very little to eat, mostly potatoes. They fell victim to vitamin deficiency and were sent back to Romania after a few years. Karl's daughter, Martha, was sent to East Germany though an error. From there, she escaped to the West.
