Gertie Martini married Henry Simons on March 29, 1937. Henry and Gertie were married for 63 blissful years and were long-time residents of Wichita Falls. Gertie worked at Academy of Mary Immaculate as the dietary manager for many years. During her long, full life, Gertie enjoyed spending time with family, cooking, crafts, and gardening. She was a 70 year member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and found joy in her church family.
Gertie was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, her parents, and 11 brothers and sisters.
Gertie is survived by all of her children and their spouses, Don and Myra (Simons) Preissler of Omaha Nebraska, David and Theresa Simons, of Dean, Texas and Bob and Shirley (Simons) May also of Omaha, NE, four grandchildren and their spouses, 9 great-grand children and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday August 21, 2012 from 6-7 pm, with the Vigil and rosary to follow at 7:00 pm at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home.
Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 10:00 am on Wednesday with Father Jack McKone, Celebrant. Internment will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery following the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials go to Presbyterian Manor Good Samaritan Fund 4600 Taft Blvd., Wichita Falls, Texas 76308 or Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1504 10th Street, Wichita Falls, Texas 76301.
